R1 employees and partners drive tree planting initiatives
At R1, we are deeply committed to fostering a sustainable future for our planet and the communities we serve. Our dedication to environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, and our tree planting initiatives are a shining example of this commitment in action.
In 2021, R1 embarked on an ambitious journey to enhance the environment in India by launching a local tree-planting initiative in partnership with the esteemed non-government organization (NGO), iamgurgaon. This initiative is designed to address critical environmental challenges by improving air quality, expanding forest coverage and sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide. Our pledge to plant 10,600 trees in Gurgaon, India by the end of 2026 reflects our commitment to this cause.
To date, we have successfully planted 7,500 trees, thanks to the tireless efforts of our dedicated employees and community partners, and our commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond the borders of India. In September 2023, our workforce in the Philippines took the initiative to launch their own tree planting project, planting over 150 trees in the La Mesa Watershed, Quezon City. This endeavor is part of our broader commitment to plant 3,000 trees in the Philippines over the next few years, in collaboration with the Philippines Department of Environment and Natural Resources. By working together, we aim to create a positive and lasting impact on the environment in the regions where we operate.
