Does this process include background checks or drug screenings?

R1 RCM does require a mandatory background and drug screen process to qualify for all job opportunities. Candidates applying to onsite hospital positions will require an occupational health screening as well.

Do patient registration representatives have to be fully vaccinated to work onsite in the Emergency Department or Outpatient locations?

R1 requires onsite employees to be fully vaccinated, including Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B (Hep B), Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap), Influenza (flu, seasonally), Tuberculosis (TB/PPD/Mantoux/IGRA), and COVID-19 (dependent on hospital).

What's the job really like?

Fast paced. Very fast paced. I check-in patients. I verify insurance. I also try to help and see if people need assistance applying for financial assistance if they don't have insurance. We also deal with patients that range anywhere from having a cold, to having a stroke, to having a heart attack, to people that come in that have cuts and scrapes or broken bones. So we deal with all aspects of people. You're gonna need good shoes. Good shoes are vital for the ER because you are always on your toes, always walking patients' rooms, up and down the hallway, sometimes even different departments. Yep, I hit ten thousand steps every day, if not more, on each shift that I work. The big part of working in the emergency room for registration is being available on holidays and weekends. An ER does not close at all, twenty fourseven. Sometimes you'll have to work holidays, sometimes you'll have to work weekends. So when I started R1, I had no experience with insurance, patient registration, nothing. You don't have to have prior experience in this role. With our comprehensive training program, we offer that assistance to associates.

If I had to list the common things that I do every day, it'd be answering phones, looking at my emails, registering patients, updating demographics, checking insurance, giving directions to my patients, giving wheelchair rides. And every day is different. That's part of the fun with the job. I've been with R1 for five years. I came in with no experience. Now I have become a trainer. No experience needed. You don't have to have prior experience in this role. With our comprehensive training program, we offer that assistance to associates. As far as weekends and holidays are concerned, yes, you do occasionally have to work a few weekends and a few holidays, but I would say compared to most industries, any customer service industry, it's really just as good, if not better. At R1, we are very inclusive. We can make accommodations if you have specific handicap that we're aware of. We look at what skills you have, what do you bring to the table, how are you of value. The team is filled with, people that come from a lot of different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, faiths, and we still all pull together as one team, one family, one cause and commitment.
