Richard Clarke, PhD, is Executive Vice President of Analytics and Payer Engagement at R1, and a national expert in applying AI and advanced analytics to healthcare's most costly administrative challenges. Dr. Clarke leads R1's efforts around real-time adjudication and payer/ provider partnerships, working to reduce friction and administrative waste across the industry. Before healthcare, Dr. Clarke spent nine years at McKinsey & Company, primarily serving the financial services industry. He then spent ten years at Highmark Health across increasingly senior roles spanning both the health plan and health system. At Highmark, he served as the Chief Analytics Officer, leading work around integrated payer/ provider economics, medical economics and value-based care, Highmark’s AI strategy and AI Center of Excellence, and its strategic partnership with Google Cloud. He also serves as a board member of Blue Health Intelligence, helping shape analytic and AI strategy across the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Dr. Clarke holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh and a BS in Neuroscience from Allegheny College.
